Upon disembarkation from the ferry and heading west, Klong Son is the first village to greet you. Klong Son Beach is located behind a lush tropical rainforest. It has a scenic cape overlooking Koh Chang's twin island, the Chang Noi Island, which provides shelter to the beach from strong currents. As a result the seawater here is calm and ideal for sea kayaking. It is a secluded beach suitable for those who seek serenity. Adequately named, this is a long strip of powdery white sand beach that slopes gradually into the sea. The beach is extensively wide and picturesque during low tide. Casuarinas and palm trees line the beach while forested hills lurk in the background. Macaques roam the forest, occationally hanging on the trees. It is the busiest area on Koh Chang, with most of the accommodations, restaurants, nightlife, shops, and commercial establishments. As the sun sets, alfresco dining takes over the spacious beachfront. Barbecue seafood, fine wine and cool drinks are served amidst soothing melodies. Deeper into the night, the popular Sabay Bar comes alive and the fire-flinging show begins. Bars and pubs play their music while guests laze around on mats and decks on the beach. Some live bands play outdoor, especially on full moon nights and festive seasons.

This is a small stretch of pebble beach that sits in between the White Sand Beach and Chaichet Cape. The shallow seabed is carpeted with shiny pebbles that resemble pearls or Mook in Thai, hence it's name. It is a quiet and peaceful beach. Snorkeling among the fishes, corals and seaweeds is a favorite pastime.

This is a distinctive cape with a small and secluded rocky beach to the north which is separated from Kai Mook Beach by some forest land. The southern section of the cape curves into a bay of long and wide sandy beach that slopes gently into the sea. Chaichet beach is ideal for swimming and watching the sunset. The cape and the pier off its shore is an ideal viewpoint of the Klong Prao Bay and a good spot for onshore fishing, especially for squids. Tiny shrimps are also seen along its shorelines and villagers are occasionally seen walking along the seabed scooping them up. These shrimps are known to be an important ingredient for the famous Koh Chang shrimp paste.

Klong Prao literally means coconut canal. Indeed, the long stretch of sandy beach is segmented into two sections by a canal that leads up to the famous Klong Plu waterfall. The canal itself is a tourist destination as the mangrove forest attracts visitors who often visit it at night to watch the beaming lights of fireflies. Lined with coconut trees the beachfront commands a magnificent view of the islands off its shores and the Chaichet Cape. Well-known as a fishing village and springboard to other islands, it is a sheltered bay where locals still live in houses built on stilts above seawater. Seafood restaurants, souvenir shops, boat rentals, dive shops and tour operators all merge at the long wooden bridge that leads to the pier. It is a favorite place for fresh seafood and shopping for some local stuffs. Few bungalows have sprouted amongst coconut groves. The Bang Bao Beach is relatively small and quiet.

This beach is situated on the eastern side of the island. It is scattered with rocks and the seafront is muddy. A good spot to catch the sunrise and good viewpoint. The headquarters of Koh Chang Marine National Park is located in nearby area close to Than Mayom Waterfall.

It is local fishing and agricultural community with a canal leading to the estuary. Fishing boats anchor along the canal flanked by mangrove forests. Occasionally, firefly tours and kayaking can be arranged with the friendly villagers.

Salakphet and nearby Ban Rong Than are two biggest communities on Koh Chang. Both are ideal shelters for fishing boats. Rong Than village on the west of the bay is the main residential area for the community. Accessibility is possible from the east coast. At the south end of the bay is a small beach with a memorial commemorating the sea battle of 1941 between the Thai and French navies. A marker on the waters near Salakphet indicates the location where the French and Thai navies fought.
